Humanitarian Leadership Award

Mrs. Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and a globally respected advocate for human rights, climate justice, and ethical leadership, is the recipient of the 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Award, conferred by the International Peace Alliance | Alliance Internationale de la Paix (IPA | AIP). This award recognizes her lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and the advancement of human dignity across the globe.

Elected in 1990 as the first female President of Ireland, Mrs. Robinson brought a transformative, people-centered approach to public life—championing women’s rights, marginalized communities, and open dialogue. Her presidency broke barriers and expanded the role of Ireland on the world stage as a beacon for progressive democracy and inclusive leadership.

In 1997, Mrs. Robinson was appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, where she confronted global injustices and strengthened the voice and visibility of the UN’s human rights mission. Her work extended to conflict zones, humanitarian crises, and developing nations, earning her respect as a principled and fearless global advocate.

As Chair of The Elders, a group of independent global leaders founded by Nelson Mandela, and through her own Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice, she continues to advocate for equitable climate action and gender justice. Her philosophy—centered on ethical leadership and intergenerational justice—has shaped global discourse on sustainability, fairness, and peace.

Mrs. Robinson has been recognized with more than 40 honorary degrees and numerous accolades, including:
• Presidential Medal of Freedom (USA, 2009)
• Sydney Peace Prize (2002)
• UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education
• Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development
• International World Women’s Prize

The Humanitarian Leadership Award will be presented at the Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala & Grand Ball, closing the 2025 International Peace Festival, on September 26, 2025, at the iconic King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

Mrs. Robinson’s legacy stands as a testament to the power of principled leadership and global solidarity. Her voice, rooted in justice and compassion, continues to guide the path toward peace, inclusion, and climate equity—core values upheld by the International Peace Alliance | Alliance Internationale de la Paix.
