Susan Sarandon to Receive the 2026 IPA | AIP Celebrity Peace Ambassador Award

The International Peace Alliance | Alliance Internationale de la Paix (IPA | AIP) is honoured to announce that Academy Award-winning actor and global humanitarian advocate Susan Sarandon will receive the 2026 IPA | AIP Celebrity Peace Ambassador Award in recognition of her distinguished artistic career, longstanding humanitarian advocacy, and commitment to raising awareness of issues affecting vulnerable and marginalized communities around the world.

The award will be presented during the Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala & Grand Ball, the closing celebration of the 2026 International Peace Festival, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto, Canada. 

With a career spanning more than five decades, Susan Sarandon has established herself as one of the most respected and accomplished actors in contemporary cinema. Her body of work reflects a deep engagement with stories exploring human dignity, resilience, compassion, and social conscience. She has received numerous international honours, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, along with multiple nominations for Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. 

Sarandon’s acclaimed performance as Sister Helen Prejean in Dead Man Walking (1995), for which she received the Academy Award for Best Actress, remains one of the defining performances of her career, bringing international attention to profound questions of justice, human dignity, compassion, and moral responsibility. Her other notable performances in films including Thelma & Louise, Atlantic City, Lorenzo’s Oil, and The Client have further affirmed her reputation as a performer of exceptional depth and integrity. 

Beyond her achievements in film and television, Susan Sarandon has long been recognized for her dedication to humanitarian causes. She was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999, supporting initiatives focused on children’s rights, education, and access to essential services in vulnerable communities worldwide. She has also supported humanitarian initiatives addressing hunger, poverty, human rights, and the needs of vulnerable communities. 

Through her public engagement and advocacy, Sarandon has consistently used her global platform to raise awareness of issues affecting marginalized communities and to encourage greater public engagement with questions of human rights, humanitarian responsibility, and social justice.
